The number of potential candidates for a single job posting can be overwhelming for hiring managers. Here’s some tips to ensure that you are on top of your game and presenting yourself in the right light to stand out in the crowd.
Think of yourself as the solution to the organization. Whether you are creating a cover letter, reviewing your resume to send out for a job posting, or you are going on an interview, it is important that you feel you are THE PERFECT PERSON for the job. You need to sell the hiring manager through all of your communication on why they should hire you  and this starts with you thinking of yourself as the solution to their needs. Sell yourself!!
Be sure to do in-depth research on the company and people who work there. In addition to reviewing the company’s website, you should also do a search in Google, Linkedin, and facebook. Google may have some press and news about the company not found on their website. Linkedin will allow you to see more about some employees that have worked and are working at the company. And, facebook will allow you to see how they are communicating with people who “Like” them.
Use ”Problem-Solving” concept in your cover letter and in the interview. If the interviewee can see you as ”the solution to their problem” this can give you a leg up on your competition. Every manager would love to see a potential hire as someone who could make their job easier.
Ensure your resume speaks to the job you are applying for. Review your resume to ensure that it has the right focus for the job description. You may want to include powerful achievement statements with examples that would be relevant to the job. This will also help give you the anecdotes at your disposal as talking points in the interview. These highlights should be achievements that you reconnect with to show your energy and passion.
